First Step in Studying God’s Word

Colossians 2:6-10

There are numerous ways of studying God’s word… both the good and the bad practices. The most important aspect of studying scripture is to derive from it what was intended. It is to nurture our spiritual growth and help us become all that God intends for us to be. It is to help us understand God, His standards and expectations. It is to help us understand humanity’s spiritual weaknesses in our self and also in others. And it is to be understood within the presented context, and within it’s historical framework.

The following example of breaking down a verse is one of the simplest and most basic ways for a believer to begin a bible study. As one becomes accustomed to this approach, he or she can grow and learn several other equally valid methods of getting into God’s word.
Verses are in RED… broken down into individual words or phrases. Followed by ( in BLACK parentheses) intended meaning, both universal and personal application.

6 Therefore, (Let’s grow and move forward… based on God’s word. Imperative. Definite.)
as you (All who are in Christ, including myself. Those born a 2nd time.)
received (Not rejected or discarded. Offered to us/me and we/I accepted.)
Christ Jesus the Lord, (Jesus only… no other religious teacher, guru, or charlatan. He takes precedence above any other)
so walk in Him, (Our/My actions, thoughts, desires, efforts are grounded in Him)
7 rooted (That which holds us/me in place, balances us, gives us strength, and sustains… living water)
and built up in Him (“He is the potter… I am the clay”)
and established in the faith, (Many world systems and philosophies, but our/my purpose is in Christ’s gospel)
just as you were taught, (Not our/my education from other sources, but that from sound biblical teaching)
abounding in thanksgiving. (Always thankful for what Christ has done, giving Him praise and glory)
8 See to it (Our/My effort, not God’s or anyone elses)
that no one (It doesn’t matter who it is, how great, mighty, or attractive they might be)
takes you captive (Loss of freedom… once caught, we/I am trapped and unable to escape)
by philosophy (Man’s best thinking and deepest thoughts, no matter how appealing they might seem)
and empty deceit, (Not beneficial to our/my spiritual purity, but that which tricks us/me into putting our/my Christ-centeredness aside)
according to human tradition, (Man’s teachings and ways of doing things which are passed down through the generations)
according to the elemental spirits of the world, (The most basic, seemingly normal and commonly encountered spiritual teachings)
and not according to Christ. (If it doesn’t stack-up with Christ’s teachings and example, then it’s potentially harmful and incorrect. It should be shelved and discarded)
9 For in Him (Nothing outside of Christ, but only that which is in Him alone. He is the source)
the whole fullness (Complete and not lacking for more. Entire)
of deity dwells bodily, (If we want to see God… just look at Jesus. He alone is God-in-man. God cannot be found, or seen, in any other living or dead person)
10 and you (All who are in Christ, including myself and all others who have submitted to Him)
have been filled (Filled is uppermost… all the way to the top, not just part way. Over-flowing)
in Him, (Jesus only… no other religious teacher, guru, or charlatan)
who is the head (The boss, the top dog, the one in charge, the one to be obeyed and listened to, the one who makes the rules. Leader of all leaders)
of all rule and authority. (At the very top, doesn’t get any higher than this, my ways and desires submit to His. It is impossible to locate any authority above His)

AMEN!

Taught By God

On the road between Jerusalem and Emmaus, two men were unaware they had just been greeted and taught by the resurrected Messiah. His words were not those of any ordinary man but had the authority and power of God Himself. Later, Luke 24:32 tells us: “They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while He talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?” And so their amazed reaction is reflected by every other person who has experienced the empowering words of Jesus and allowed Him to change their life!

Throughout history, people have expressed their views pertaining to what God might be like and what His character and nature are. Many, and most of the time these ponderings are nothing more than man’s own imagination or educated guesses and reasonings. Occasionally these man-made viewpoints have had devastating effects and have even lead people further away from truly knowing and understanding God. The bible has gone as far as declaring that some of the false views are actually “doctrines created by demons.” We wonder if men create religions that are so harmful and far-off base, can any of us know who the true creator of the universe is? Can we ever actually comprehend His character and what He desires for us? Can the true God be known at all?

Though we might be spiritually short-sighted, God is quite aware of this problem-causing limitation of ours. When we ignore Him or worship inaccurate deities of our own making, He is not shocked, dismayed or caught off guard. He is so lovingly understanding of our problem that He was able to foresee it long before He created mankind; long before we fell into sin; and long before each one of us were individually born into this world. The omnipotence of God is so overwhelming that He was able to develop a solution to a problem long before the problem itself ever existed! If man himself is incapable of reaching God and knowing him personally, then God must be the one to transcend the void and make Himself known to us. What we are unable to do, He is able to accomplish with no problem what-so-ever.

God has revealed Himself in three distinct ways. First, the very world in which we live, with all it’s complexities and uncountable life forms point to their creator. Scripture states: “What may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities — His eternal power and divine nature — have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.” Second, His Spirit has impressed upon the heart and mind of the early prophets to pen the revelations found within His written word. Scripture reveals: “Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.” Third, and most important, God Himself entered our world and gave us instruction and spiritual guidance. Jesus even quoted the scripture which foretold of His teachings: “All your sons will be taught by the LORD, and great will be your children’s peace.”

In harmony with the teachings of Christ is the understanding given to the believer by God’s indwelling Holy Spirit. As we study scripture and grow in the instructions of Jesus, His spirit whispers to our intellect and richly illuminates these words of power and of life. We become receptive vessels for receiving the truths which lie within God’s written word. This is in full contrast to the unrepentant mind which can read the same words but is in no way capable of comprehending their richness and full meaning. Scripture explains it this way: “And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.”

So what does God want us to know about Himself? This question actually has a plain and simple answer. There are no big mysteries involved which should cause anyone to travel to a distant mountain peek in search of an ancient and secluded spiritual guru. We just need to look at the life; the teachings; the facts; and the example which Christ left for us. It’s that simple. When the disciples asked for Jesus to show God the father, He let it be known that He had been showing God to His followers all along. He replied: “He who has seen Me has seen the Father; how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on My own initiative, but the Father abiding in Me does His works.”

Here’s the good part… the true account of Christ is quickly becoming available to all. It is the most widely published written document in history. It has been translated into the greatest number of languages and read by the greatest number of people of any other book the world has ever known. Scholars are increasingly amazed at the accuracy of the modern translations when compared to the most ancient documents available. If we don’t know anything about the Living God, it’s plausible we have made little effort to know Him. He has given us the means to know Him intimately. He has given us His Son that we all might be “Taught by God!”

Fallen From Lofty Heights

“I believe all people are basically good.” Statements such as this are common and held by the majority of people… especially by those who have had few negative experiences happen to them. If this viewpoint is correct, or even reasonable, then it should be verified by a society’s laws, by history, by relationships, by religious instructions and by child-rearing expectations. Unfortunately in none of these areas does a portrait of a ‘basically good’ person emerge. If anything, the picture is alarmingly quite the opposite!

When a society sets up a law, it is imposing a set of limitations to keep individuals away from excessive or harmful actions. Without laws set in place, our true nature is free to shine brighter and become much more clear. Instead of highlighting our good side, having no laws reveals just how sinful we can be. History showcases many societies which died-out after allowing lawlessness and depravity to reign. Even today, the nation which has the lowest crime rate in the world, holds that honor because it has made most wrongs, or sins, legal… not because it’s citizens are nicer than the rest of us! We are full of sin and laws are a necessity to protect us from our self!

Modern society enforces laws pertinent to current conditions and situations. Highway laws keep accidents from happening more frequently and prevent ‘road rage’ from becoming the norm. Without the fear of law’s punishment, thievery of every type would increase. Murder, rape and exploitation would become far more commonplace. The true implications of ’survival of the fittest’ would be evident in all areas. Remove our laws of protection and those ‘less fit’ would be abused and trampled down in no time!

History attests to man’s inhumanity to one another. War, bloodshed, feuds, strife and jealousy have continuously separated one people group from another. Even in times of peace, humanity just barely refrains from raging and battling against others. We tend to naturally dislike and mistrust people who are different from our self. Language barriers; dialects; skin color; culture; education; regional and community idioms, family background. These are just a few of the many characteristics which separate us… and cause us irritation!

Numerous people can only attain peaceful relationships by avoiding contact with any or all neighbors that irritate or bother them and by doing so, they might avoid confrontation and relationship turmoil. But this doesn’t mean they are a ‘good person’… it only indicates they have sidestepped acting worse than they really are capable of!

Any parent, teacher or child-rearer understands the simple truth that children must be taught how to act good. Being bad doesn’t have to be taught to a child… they naturally know how to tell lies; take things that aren’t theirs; hurt other children; and spit venomous words meant to harm! Even people who don’t agree with this statement believe that adults who do bad things, do so because they weren’t taught better as children. Quite simply, we are not born as ‘basically good’ people!

The Bible is quite clear about all aspects of our condition. It sheds light on humanity’s fallen nature throughout the ages… both before and after recorded history. We are given specific details surrounding the who, what, where and why regarding how we came to have this inborn predicament. We see that our sinfulness is more than just being self centered, culminating in manifesting little regard for others. We are enlightened in just how far all aspects of our being are permeated with sin. And this sin naturally separates us from a righteous, just and holy God.

It is in our relationship with God that our sin really shows itself. It cuts us off from the fellowship we were originally created to have with Jehovah. It keeps us from obeying His laws and decrees! No matter how hard we try, we still aren’t able to cross the divide which separates us from Him. His holiness and righteousness are unattainable by our own efforts. If not for the Messiah coming and paying the redemptive price, our sin would eternally separate us from the Lord… both in this life and in the next!

‘Fallen From Lofty Heights’ relates the terrible story of mankind’s fall and it’s harmful repercussions throughout biblical history… to the present! It’s not a pretty story but is extremely important since every fact, detail, law and decree are substantiated by man’s sinfulness, as contrasted with God’s righteousness! We have fallen and there’s no reason to pretend it’s not a fact. Let’s admit the truth and find out what God wants us to do about it! There’s no other way to move ahead. Let’s allow Him to give us His fellowship… and restore our broken relationship!

_________________________________________________________________________

And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth. John testified about Him and cried out, saying, “This was He of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me has a higher rank than I, for He existed before me.’” For of His fullness we have all received, and grace upon grace. 17 For the Law was given through Moses; grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ.
(John 1:14-17)

Therefore they spent a long time there speaking boldly with reliance upon the Lord, who was testifying to the word of His grace, granting that signs and wonders be done by their hands. (Acts 14:3)

The Law came in so that the transgression would increase; but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more, so that, as sin reigned in death, even so grace would reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 5:20,21)

But when the kindness of God our Savior and His love for mankind appeared, He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by His grace we would be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life. (Titus 3:4-7)

the Genesis Project “In the Beginning” (part 2)

Historically, humanity has always disobeyed and failed when God places important spiritual responsibility within our hands. Scripture shows in numerous accounts that mankind has a continuous cycle of failing to carry-out God’s plans when attempted by our own strength. It began with Adam and Eve and was repeated in other Genesis accounts with Noah, Abraham and the many other patriarchs. Later, we see Israel as a nation on a continuous cycle of promising to obey God but failing with every attempt… even within the highest spiritual position of the Levite priesthood! As soon as the monarchy began, Saul promises to follow God but fails miserably! He is not alone… his failure is repeated by David’s heirs who sit on Judah’s throne as well as the other kings who occupied Israel’s palace. Even as Christ establishes His earthly church, we see the apostles fall short whenever dependent upon their own efforts and power. They are followed by the early church whose spiritual limitations result in many letters of rebuke and doctrinal instruction written to help guide them past their spiritual hurdles and failures. Biblical prophecies illuminate to the end of times and we see that man’s weak spirituality will be part of our condition right up to the very end.

Genesis chapter three gives us an account of events pertaining to when our fallen spiritual state first transpired. We see at that point… when humanity first turned our backs on our Creator, that a whole plethora of spiritual and physical vices were released upon all generations to come. The enemy of our soul is shown to work in very subtle and dangerous ways. His goal is to usurp God’s authority and establish his own. Even before the point of turning the keys of our servitude away from God and over to him, we see that he’s already planting seeds of distrust within our conscienceness. He shows himself to be a traitor, a betrayer, disloyal, and a friend only to himself. He appeals to us and we easily fall right into his trap!

Satan’s words of venom are well crafted. He wisely appeals to our vanity, our impure desires, our huge ego, and to the lusts of our heart. It is to our shame and discredit that we would even listen to such blasphemous lies of treachery. The deceiver not only brings into question God’s honesty, but insinuates He is a liar with selfish motives! His accusation against God is that God is intentionally withholding the one thing which will make humanity become deities who possess equality with God Himself! Though God has given riches and all the great things of this world, it is the one area which was withheld from us that Satan brings to light. It’s as if he turned a sharp spotlight on an otherwise unimportant area which we hadn’t really focused on before. Now we aren’t able to look away from this ‘tree of knowledge of good and evil’. Now we must taste this ‘forbidden fruit’. Now we must sin. Now we must betray the God who showed nothing but love and trust to us. Now we must join the rank of God’s enemies.

By putting our trust in Satan rather than God we are making a conscience decision. We are making a judgment between a God who has already bestowed blessings of many good things and a serpent who offers nothing more than promises of grandeur. Our lustful vanity easily wins out and from that point on it is our own will which becomes the source of fulfilling our wants and needs. No longer are we willingly dependent, and trusting of ‘the giver of all good things’ but instead replace Him with the labors of our hands and the decisions of our mind. We supplant what is dependable for what is unknowing. Potential blessings give way to potential harm. We begin a history of many successes overshadowed by many more failures.

Instantly, as soon as our eyes are opened, fear and shame set in. Our naked condition reflects our inadequacies and weaknesses. We feel a need to cover our minds and bodies, and we hide from our previous Lord who now seems so distant, righteous and holy. Our own lack of righteousness only magnifies His perfection… and terror strikes our soul! Where once we could stand naked in His presence, now we can’t even look at Him from a distance. No longer are we able to reside in the garden of His provision, but we go forth to toil under the burden of our own choosing.

This discourse should never have taken place. We were at fault by entering into discussion with the tempter. Instead of being diplomatic with the enemy and assuming his motives were harmless, we should have sternly rebuked his wicked insinuations and instantly put a stop to any further discourse. Jesus was also brought into a similar discourse when tempted in the wilderness for forty days, but He combated the enemy and would not give in. Satan’s desire with Christ was the same as it was with the first humans… he craved to be elevated to the position of God. He lusted after power, authority, and complete lordship. But Christ was highly offended by this request and would not discuss it any further. He immediately stopped the conversation and sharply rebuked Satan with, “Get behind me Satan!”

Jesus is referred to in 1 Corinthians 15 as the ‘last Adam’. It then goes on to contrast various aspects of the first sinning-disobedient-Adam and the last sinless-obedient-Adam, who is the Lord. Adam was of the dust of the ground but Jesus is of a much higher spiritual realm. Where Adam desired to exalt himself and become god, Jesus already had that status but gave it all up to lower Himself and come down to a lesser place. Adam’s actions have robbed people of life, Jesus’ actions have given life to people. Adam lead us away from the tree of life, Jesus leads us back to it. Adam robbed God of honor, Jesus gave God nothing but honor. The two are night-and-day opposites. Adam failed miserably, Jesus succeeded triumphantly!

As we share with Adam in our fallen, sin-filled condition… by our own efforts we have no hope. Adam’s inheritance has given us the knowledge of good and evil, but it comes within a state of disobedience to God. Through our own efforts we try to cover our sin, which will restore a relationship with God, but we are unable. It was our actions which brought about our condition, but the removal of this condition is only through a means established by God… not by us. Only He can establish and set the terms of reconciliation with Himself… and He says if we are to be made right before Him, this atonement will come only through a blood sacrifice. Though we try, our substitutionary ’sacrificial lambs’ only prove inadequate and temporary. It is only when God offers His perfect ’sacrificial lamb’ that we once again have a relationship with Him. It is only through the blood of Jesus, shed on a wooden cross that God is able to bring us back. He alone accomplishes what we aren’t able!

Adam and Eve failed miserably. You and I too fail in our daily battles with the deceiver. But because of Christ’s victory against the enemy, culminating at the cross, we are able to share in His triumph and cast aside Satan’s lordship over our life! We are victorious, not because we said ‘no’ in the garden, but because Christ shouted ‘it is over’ and allowed us to turn our loyalty away from Satan and over to Himself. We are now His!

Accept His sacrifice. Accept His free gift!

the Genesis Project “In the Beginning” (part 1)

We live in an amazingly complex world, finely crafted and detailed in every possible way. It has an abundance of well thought-out details so minuscule that our finite intellect may never fully understand the complexities which surround us.

The reasoning mind looks around at these surroundings and realizes all this couldn’t have happened by accident… there has to be some type of creative being/force/other who crafted it all together! It would be unreasonable to imagine that the material universe and all it’s life forms happened without intelligent design and guidance.

This complex world and the billions of life forms it is host to could never have happened by chance any more than a computer or a television could suddenly pop into existence on their own. If we are to reason that all things happened by accident then we are setting ourselves up to believe any or all impossibilities… no matter how implausible or ridiculous they might be. The main question we are faced with is not “did someone create” but “who could possibly have formed and fashioned all this together?” This question has been answered by the very One who is responsible for all things.

The deity who created our universe has made Himself known in several ways. He has revealed Himself through: (1) the world He created (Psalms 19:1), (2) our consciences and hearts (Romans 2:12-16), (3) humanity and our history (Acts 17:26,27), (5) the Scriptures of the Bible (Jeremiah 30:2) and (5) the person of Jesus, “He who has seen Me has seen the Father” (John 14:9). If we want to understand our existence, the avenues are there for us to follow.

When we gaze upon the many wonders around us, we see a testimony of the One who created them. Romans 1:20 explains, “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.” This means that every mountain, valley, ocean, seashore, forest, desert, plain, sunset and sunrise testify to God’s creative handiwork. God, the greatest artist imaginable has left His signature on the canvas of His creations… for all to see!

God’s Word begins with two perspectives regarding the creation account. The Genesis beginning gives a broad, general account and then narrows it’s focus to a more specific and clearly detailed view. Both of these creation stories help us understand the why, who and where of our existence. The song “In the Beginning” concentrates on the seven day, all-encompassing account with all it’s elegance and poetic splendor. Additionally, the spoken ‘prelude and postlude’ presents an even deeper perspective by including Christ’s involvement in the creation process as explained in the New Testament. The gospel of John testifies, “Through Him (Jesus, the Word) all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made.”

In the Beginning takes an awestruck look at just how amazing God’s handiwork is! It’s lyrics sing praise to the majestically wondrous and artistic hands behind all this incredible creation! It encompasses all areas of God’s creative revelations and gives thanks and glory to Him for all that He’s done. The “Alpha and Omega Suite” takes off running exactly where it should… in the beginning!

The Omega Etude

It is only through God’s word that we can have this partial vision of what the age to come has in store. God’s word is our magnifying glass revealing what our spiritually-weak vision cannot naturally see! It allows us to gaze beyond the veal of distraction and view the workings and ministry of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit throughout time and space. We see the Messiah at the earth’s creation; we see Him throughout God’s dealings with sinful mankind; we see Him as He humbly enters the earth the first time; we see Him as He returns as triumphant and mighty conqueror; and we see Him as He rules from His throne of power after the new earth is setup. Everything we need to know about God has been given to us in His wondrous book.

Since the foundation of the Alpha & Omega Suite has been God’s Word, the lyrics have been as informative as possible in regards to what is contained in scripture. At a time when many in society try to downplay doctrine, the Alpha & Omega Suite has emphasized timeless doctrines which are important in understanding God accurately. If we are ignorant concerning what the Bible has revealed about God, then we are free to create our own god or believe in a god created by the whim’s of some other person. If accurate biblical doctrine is not important to us, then knowing God for who He is cannot be important as well. We are doomed to have a mentality of “I don’t try to understand god because god cannot be known.”

At the beginning of the Alpha and Omega Suite, the Alpha Prelude opens and gives a glimpse of what lies ahead in both suites. The Omega Etude reintroduces the same melody with the purpose of looking back on what has come and gone before, and to peer ahead to what we can expect in events not-yet-here. The future is introduced with a fanfare proclaiming God’s goodness and mercy, attributes which are fully encompassed in His Son… who’s very nature is past, present and future incarnate!

The word ‘victory’ easily sums-up what the future has in store. With every previous manifestation of Jesus, both the preincarnate ones and that of His first coming, clearly shown is that He always comes in victory and spiritual strength! Based upon that knowledge, as we look toward the future, we can also expect Him to return victoriously over any and all opposition. Since failure doesn’t have any part in the person of Jesus, victory is Jesus’ identity… it is simply who He is.

Jesus has already planted His church upon this present age and at His glorious return, it will be the church which cheers triumphantly. Additionally, this church will be His loyal and willing servants as He reigns universally. It is through the victory of the cross that the church is insured to share in Jesus’ victory, both in this present age and the age to come!

New World Has Come (Paradise Regained)

New World Has Come

From Genesis to Revelation the tragic reality has been presented: from the day of our birth we are doomed a life of unrighteous and unholy living! This gloomy message appears quite hopeless until we see it mixed with two opposite and quite positive messages: (1) Christ has redeemed us and given us life and, (2) God will finally destroy all unrighteousness and rebuild His earth into the sin-free place it was originally meant to be! (2 Peter 3:13)

God’s Word begins by presenting the newly created world with all it’s living creatures and the rapid fall from grace which immediately follows (Genesis 1). Right from the start we waste no time in messing things up. We are excommunicated from living in paradise and barred from partaking in the “tree of life” which would have elevated us to a higher, more glorious existence in God’s presence (Genesis 3:22). Life could have been so smooth and comfortable, but instead, pain, suffering and misery become the norm for every generation to follow.

Even apart from the Bible, recorded history shows how the effect of sin pollutes our relationship with the world around us and with our communion with God. The perfect unity that was once known in the garden can only be hoped for at a later time when God decides… and that time will come only when man’s ruthless behavior justifies the end of things as we know them. Our actions create the circumstances but God brings about the final outcome (2 Peter 3:7). But… there is still yet hope!

The earth’s, and man’s problems which were introduced “in the beginning” are resolved in the final book of the Bible. Mercy and forgiveness are freely given to the repentant individual and peace is finally obtained on the “new” earth. The previously unobtainable tree of life is once again located within the reach of all who love and trust God (Rev 22:2). Christ is eternally present, supplying righteous light for all to bask in (Rev 21:23). Harmony has finally been restored. Paradise is regained!

Book-Learned… but No Spiritual Sense

Several of the songs in the Suite lightly touch upon the concept of deception falling under the guise of education. Biblically, it is clear that God’s word is available for all, whether rich or poor, strong or weak, smart or dumb, educated or unlearned, etc. In other words, people from every walk of life… from every continent, time and place. Only at the cross did God’s gospel of grace spread-out for all to hear and decide what they would personally do with this gift of entering His presence and His kingdom.

Unfortunately, even though we all have the same opportunity, we don’t all accept or respond to God in the same way. This is a theme which was a major part of Christ’s teachings. He went as far as referring to those who hear but don’t heed as “bad soil”… which is an extremely unflattering way of calling such a person ‘worthless and not usable’. Of course His reference was in regard to that person’s spiritual state and not to their position in society. This means that though a person might be in a high, well respected place of power, spiritually they are dead. Any spiritual advice they might give does not come with authority from God or His truths, but from some other source, be it their own vanity, pride, deceit or dishonor. And if it comes from the spiritual realm, it is from those dark forces whom are rebellious and against the Lord and all He stands for.

In this first quarter, as the Alpha & Omega Suite obtained worldwide airplay, it has been received quite well… by both those who believe God’s word and by some who don’t yet have a personal relationship with God. Several of the songs have been ‘starred’ as being personal favorites of the listener. Of course I always enjoy seeing when somebody has added a song to their list of favorites. This means that something about that song has touched the listener, whether it’s the music, the beat, the genre, the lyrics, or even the message. Naturally, I hope that at least the message is being understood and contributing to the approval rating. The importance of the Alpha & Omega Suite is in the message. That’s what it is all about.

Recently though a ‘negative rating’ has been applied to the Suite. This doesn’t really surprise me… what surprises me is that it hasn’t received more criticism. Christ warned those who follow Him that in the same way that He was criticized and rejected, so will be His message, and so will be those who follow after Him. I’m sure as more ears hear and comprehend what the lyrics proclaim, more negatives will be added against the Suite.

Interestingly, the person who called the Suite ‘ridiculous’ also proudly proclaims himself to be a ‘consultant and a college professor’! Those are both two honorable professions. I have high respect for those who teach and for those who consult. But… only if they’re wise and virtuous as well!! I also believe that if you are teaching, you owe it to your students to stick to your subject of expertise. Students have no need for a professor who espouses their personal beliefs and opinions within the structure of a classroom. Granted, outside of the classroom if a student asks for a teacher’s opinion, then that information should be freely given. Normally, a student assumes a teacher’s knowledge extends beyond what they are paid to teach. This false assumption happens far too often within the confines of universities and schools of higher learning.

So, can a teacher of Math, English, Sociology… or even a football coach, also be an expert in areas of religion, or of God’s true Word (not the same thing)? Of course they can! Most of us are knowledgeable in areas outside of what we are paid to do. But, should they abuse their position, and use their classroom to proselytize their belief or disbelief? Whether agnostic, atheist, religious, or believer… such a teacher’s exemplary life both inside and outside of the classroom, filled with good deeds, kind disposition, and concern for others, should speak loud and be their soapbox. It is through those areas of kindness and purity that their words have any real meaning at all.

Finally, what’s all this got to do with a college professor stamping disapproval on the Suite’s message as being ‘ridiculous’? If all he’s doing is rejecting the Alpha & Omega Suite, I can live with that. But, if he’s rejecting it because he’s already rejected God’s gospel of truth (Jesus’ gift of grace and salvation), and if his beliefs have erroneously permeated a classroom where impressionable ears are listening and pondering, then prayers need to be lifted-up so that his ‘bad soil’ is not polluting fresh soil that has not yet had a chance to be cultivated and fertilized to become spiritually pure, enriched and useful.

The Alpha & Omega Suite was composed to be another source where God’s truths might be found. While it doesn’t offer any new message or revelation, it does put to music (and present in a different way), what Christ taught and boldly proclaimed! I pray for those who hear it and have a hard time with Christ’s message within, that they might turn to Him and become good soil that He can use… and in turn spread the Lord’s glory even further to all corners! Amen.

The Suite Heard ‘Round the World

In spite of it’s problems, and tendency of spreading garbage along with treasures, the internet is a remarkable tool! It’s as if one has possession of the world’s greatest library and media-center right in the convenience of their own home, work or corner Starbucks. It brings educational resources, worthless trivia, and entertainment to a person’s hands almost instantaneously.

The incredibly large scale of the internet was brought home recently when reviewing statistics regarding online airplay of the Alpha & Omega Suite. I was amazed that in only three months it has been listened to by quite a few people. A few stated they weren’t impressed with it, but many others have chosen various parts of the Suite as ones ‘they absolutely loved’!

One area which I was not prepared to see, and took me completely by surprise is in the vast geographical spread of the Suite’s airplay. It hasn’t been heard in just one small localized region. Since the internet spreads out to all corners of this globe, the Suite is going out with worldwide fervor. By the websites which offer stats for the nations where it’s being heard, the figures show it’s been heard in FORTY-SEVEN NATIONS so far!!! That’s close to 50 countries! Since some websites don’t offer those figures, it’s even possible that it has been played in over fifty nations globally. All I can say is WOW!

So, where has the Alpha & Omega Suite been heard? Most countries I have heard of, but there are a few that I can’t even find on a map. Anyway, here’s a list…

Argentina, Australia, Bangladesh, Belgium, Belarus, Bosnia, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Gibraltar, Herzegovina, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Japan, Lithuania, Mexico, Moldova, Nepal, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russian Federation, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, United Kingdom, United States, Venezuela

But Jesus Paid it All

But Jesus Paid It All

When playing the board game Monopoly, it helps to possess a ‘get out of jail free’ card. Without the card a player could forfeit enough turns to either lose the game or trail significantly behind. The card guarantees immediate dismissal from jail so the game can continue without interruption for that player. Real life doesn’t offer an equivalent card… once jailed, we serve our full term if bail can’t be made. When the sentence has been handed-down, there’s no turning back for the law breaker.

Real life offers another terrible blow… we arrive in this world with our sentence already set in stone! We assume we’re born with freedom to do whatever we want but reality is much different; at birth many factors are dictated which we have no control over. For example, we’re born with no choice of our physical traits; gender; race; social standing; geographical location; family; wealth; poverty; handicaps; strengths; weaknesses… literally 100% of what we take for granted! But there is another inborn trait often overlooked, ignored or denied that separates us from God and His righteousness… our notorious ’sin nature’. It doesn’t matter how much wealth or prestige our position in society offers, we all enter this world with sin’s burden fastened securely around our neck. We have no choice!

This present life is not the only place where we’re separated from God, sin guarantees our afterlife will also be spent apart from His presence. Heaven’s gates will be closed to even the kindest and most thoughtful person with exemplementary actions. Why? Because we underestimate the full extent of sin’s devastating equation in the makeup of our very being! We downplay its significance with statements such as, “I’m really not a bad person,” and “Surely God won’t send me to hell,” and “I’ve never killed anyone,” and “I’m kind to animals so I must not be all that bad.” Our blinded eyes are incapable of seeing sin for the ugly and repulsive cancer which God proclaims and knows it to be.

Heaven’s door will always remain shut to all who are dead in their sins. It’s as if we’re shaped like a ‘large square peg’ and heaven’s entrance is a ’small round hole’. No matter how hard we try, it is totally impossible for us to enter through. God and His angelic followers are naturally separated from the unholiness which dwells within us. Heaven is habitated only by the righteous and hell is the natural destination of the rest of us. Just like oil and water, sin and righteousness will not mix and can never join in unison!

Our date with hell seems to be a definite, hopeless fact with no escape or way out. But the good news is “things impossible for men are totally possible for God!” He doesn’t desire for us to remain outcasts and adversaries so He has provided the means for us to join Him in His heavenly kingdom. We might not possess the keys to open the door but His son, the required ’sacrificial lamb’ does! He will gladly let anyone enter who has been purified by His sin-cleansing blood, which is the ‘admission price’ for entrance into the kingdom! We can enter because of who Jesus is and who we recognize Him to be… not because of our own inefficient works or goodness.

When seeing Jesus face-to-face, we will either greet Him as our Lord and personal Savior or as an unknown foreigner whom we rejected to follow and serve. In this life, at the moment we repent and acknowledge Him as Lord, He gives us that elusive card which had been beyond our grasp for far too long… we now possess the ‘get out of jail free’ card! It becomes ours because Jesus purchased it through His blood which was lovingly but painfully shed on the cross! Our sentence of separation becomes annulled and we can close the door of jail forever and securely behind us. We are free!

With repetitious rhythm the lyrics state, “but Jesus paid it all!” For all who desire to spend eternity with God in His kingdom, the price has been completely paid. It won’t cost us a cent. It has been given to us as a free gift! Our future is guaranteed to be with Him throughout all eternity! We thank God that through the grace, mercy, loving kindness and sacrifice of Jesus, our debt has been paid in full. ‘Cause Jesus has paid it all… fully and completely!

Miracle on the Damascus Road

Miracle On The Damascus Road

Images of the young heiress garbed in combat attire dominated the media. She had metamorphasized from a victim suffering at the hands of her kidnappers to being a sympathetic compatriot to her captors! The public became stunned as they viewed images of the gun-wielding victim-turned-militant! They didn’t know whether to believe their eyes or be skeptical. Was it possible this young woman had actually changed sides and become a colleague to those who had kidnapped and possibly abused her? If so, why did this about-face take place? Was she brainwashed; acting out of fear; or had she actually grown to become like-minded to her captor’s radical stands? Changes like hers are not a normal, daily occurrence by any means! It’s only natural to be skeptical.

A few years after Christ was crucified, a similar and highly documented incident happened. Paul, a Jewish Roman citizen, was one of the most violent and skeptical persecutors of Jesus’ followers. But a dramatic change happened and a 180 degree turn made him become one of Jesus biggest supporters. He had gone from being convinced of the falsehood of Jesus’ claims of messiahship to being 100% convinced that Jesus was indeed who he said he was. Paul now believed that Jesus was the Son of God… sent on an important mission into our world… accomplished everything he was ordained to do… and provided a means of reconciliation with God to all who believe and commit their life to Him.

Paul was not a poorly educated simpleton who might be easily fooled and deceived by crafty lies. Instead, he was highly educated; multi cultured; well traveled; cosmopolitan; expert debater; and dedicated to living an honest and sincere life. His great knowledge and resources had all pointed to Jesus as being a false prophet and impostor… or so he thought! Much to Paul’s shock and amazement, he dramatically learned it was his own eyes which had been spiritually blind and unable to see!

While traveling to Damascus, Paul had a personal encounter with the risen Lord! In an unprecedented and astonishing fashion Christ met Paul where he was at. This encounter temporarily blinded Paul’s eyes but also gave him new sight to see the error of his ways. Now he could clearly see things the way God intended instead of the way they had appeared. Paul became a man on fire for his Lord and Savior; a man dedicated to proclaiming the truth of God’s Son!

Paul’s encounter with Christ on the Damascus road was a dramatic life-changing experience. There haven’t been other recorded instances of the resurrected Jesus taking such drastic action in an individual’s life. Why did He make such an exception for this religious Jewish citizen from Tarsus? What made Paul so special that his path was crossed uncharacteristically by the son of God? What special purpose did God have for this man that He would miraculously step in and save him from the deception of his own distorted vision?

God chooses wisely. After Paul’s conversion, we see a man broken and molded into a person whom God could effectively use. His focus changed from being a persecutor of the church to becoming it’s strongest proponent; advocate; and spokesman! Paul was no longer blind… he could see Christ clearly and vigorously proclaimed Him to the world. Paul had become the vessel God used for bridging the gap between the old and the new; the law and grace; the Jewish chosen and the beloved church of Gentiles! No other individual has ever had such an important task as the one in which God placed Paul. God’s enemy was now His friend and chief spokesman!

In spreading the gospel, Paul covered thousands of miles and traveled throughout numerous lands. Because of these ministerial, church-planting travels and a desire to insure every young church would mature in doctrinal accuracy and love for Christ, Paul wrote letters of encouragement or chastisement for the benefit of each congregation. It is through these letters that every believer since has benefited and grown. History has shown that what was written for the first century church is equally valid and important to every future generation; individual; culture and truth-seeker since.

Today, as we grow in our walk with the Lord and strive to be all He wants us to be, Paul’s letters to the early church prove to be one of our best teaching aids. They give guidance to our daily walk; they educate our mind with spiritual and scriptural knowledge; they correct and reprimand us for wrong actions and desires; and they prove to be one of the most easily read and understood portions of the Bible. Additionally, they show themselves to be in harmonious agreement with the rest of the Bible and clarify some of the more difficult to understand passages from the old testament.

Looking back, it’s obvious to see why God chose Paul. In the all-important matter of spreading the gospel of Christ beyond Israel’s borders, Paul possessed a minion of qualified traits for such a task. His personality; his temperament; his strengths; his weaknesses; his Jewish upbringing; his exposure and knowledge of other cultures; his education, both academic and religious; and his loyalty and desire to faithfully do what God wanted him to do. Even the twelve disciples, whom Jesus hand picked, did not possess such varied traits and useful qualifications! It is understandable and reasonable to see why Jesus miraculously appeared to Paul in such an unusual way. This ‘persecutor of the early church’ was the ideal tool to be used by God! He was the ideal person to have a “Miracle on the Damascus Road.”

The Alpha Prelude

The first half of the Suite is the Omega. It portrays the God of history as He interacted and manifested Himself to the nation of Israel… the precious seed of Abraham. The Omega is also the section which corresponds with the writings and teachings found in the Old Testament of the Bible. These are the history verses… and songs. They are the historical accounts of an ancient nation as well as being the historical accounts of God’s dealings with these people. Their purpose is for us to learn and grow from. They help us understand God more fully and accurately.

The Omega’s sixteen songs might be the most difficult for us to accept of any in the entire Suite. They are the ones which deal with the inward nature of man. They also paint a bleak picture of our broken spiritual condition. We are shown as rebels fighting against righteousness, holiness and all that is godly and good! We are full of wrath, violence and disobedience. Though we might be loving and kind on occasion, the deceitfulness of our heart even stains our virtues and good works. And because of the way we are on the inside, the judgmental side of God is portrayed… and that is one aspect of Him which we tend to dislike. Give us ‘God the Loving’ but don’t show us ‘God the Divine Judge’. But, if we are to accept what we find attractive, then we also need to realistically accept the authoritarian, strong and all-controlling part of God as well. And as we mature, we then see the benefits of those attributes. We love and admire Him for being that way!

The Alpha & Omega Suite opens with the ‘Alpha Prelude’, preparing the way for all that is to follow. It’s more-or-less a little fanfare stating “Don’t feel that God cannot be known. Not only has He written His presence on our consciousness and can be seen in nature, but He’s also worked directly in the history of Abraham’s lineage!” God is here! He’s given us sufficient proof of whom He is. He wants us to have the desire to know Him better… and more intimately. Let’s do!

The Correct Song Order… Not as on Jamendo!

The Alpha and Omega Suite

* Outline *

__________________________________________

The Alpha

(1) The Alpha Prelude
God’s word has lovingly been given to mankind for our benefit and so we can know Him more intimately. Our suite of songs begins a journey which parallels God’s written word. Many of His doctrines, laws and decrees are celebrated in the songs which follow.

(2) In The Beginning
How it all began… the handiwork of our creator. The Word of God forms this universe out of nothing… with little more than His powerful spoken commands. The scope of His in-depth creativity, design and artistic execution cannot be imagined or fathomed!

(3) Fallen From Lofty Heights
Humanity’s foolish choice to be separated from God. The curse of sin and it’s consequences are unleashed upon all generations to come. Man is forever tainted by his rebellion… unless a Savior can step-in and provide a way out.

(4) The Flocks and Folds of Abraham
God has a plan to redeem fallen mankind. We might have collectively sinned against Him but He has already chosen a person from who’s lineage His Messiah will come. Abraham might seem ordinary on the surface but God considers him friend and makes important covenants which have lasting consequences on all descendants to follow.

(5) On The Misty Mount With Moses
He began life in jeopardy; obtained all that this world has to offer; and ended his days as a servant of the Most High. One of the only men ever to be known as meeting God ‘face to face’.

(6) Etched In Stone
The law is given and indicates what is expected of us. Ordinances, covenants and sacrifices are established. The truth is now known. Finally we realize how Holy, Just and Righteous God is… and how far we miss His perfect standard.

(7) They Longed For Kings
God’s chosen people are placed in a totally unique position… they could live as a nation with Jehovah reigning and governing in their midst, or they could be no different than the neighboring cultures around them. Surely they will choose to follow God’s righteous decrees and be a shining light to the nations. But… incredibly, they want nothing more than follow the darkened example of reprobate neighbors. Over and over again they reject their redeemer and desire an earthly king.

(8) Honesty, Humility & A Humble Heart
Israel’s first king turns his back on God and proves a failure. The throne is given to a complex man after God’s own heart. He is paradoxically both brave warrior, faithful servant, gentle poet, lovely musician and humble King. He proves perfect to carry the lineage of the promised Messiah.

(9) The Trial of Job Ballad
Wealth, prestige and all good things are taken away from the most righteous man in all the earth. Will he follow Satan’s accusation that he will curse God and die… or will he prove loyal and true in the face of unbearable trials?

(10) Eyes Wide Open: Cannot See
For all of us who were skeptical about God… His existence and His persona. A song with an atheistic viewpoint… and how God deals with our wrong and prideful false views.

(11) Idols In The Mud
If you think the idols made by our hands are enticing and cool, just wait till you see how God deals with our worthless treasures.

(12) The Psalmist’s Sonata
The Psalmist’s songs and poetry inspire, comfort, elevate and reach to the very throne of God. Questions are answered and the full gamut of human emotions are covered. Honest, sincere love is expressed to God and our understanding of Him is greatly deepened.

(13) Solomon’s Overture
Who is wise in their own eyes? The person who rejects the Lord’s council as given through His word and by His spirit. For others, God has given the wisdom of the ages in the teachings of Solomon… thousands of years old but still pertinent to us all.

(14) Flames of Conviction
What is important to us? Our natural state places importance on areas not of value to God, or to our spiritual state. God can use us though… He desires people with strong convictions to follow His rule.

(15) The Prophets Spoke Tonight
Men and women chosen by God to speak His truths and point the way to the coming Messiah. Transcending millennium with their message of grace, wrath, righteousness and sin… an unbelievable consistency separates their voice from those of the false prophets!

(16) Change Your Ways
We cannot maintain an intimate relationship with God. Our pattern is to fall away and sinfully do our own thing… generation after generation. We continue to emphasize and glorify all the wrong things. All God asks is that we simply repent of our actions and change our wrongful ways.

__________________________________________

The Omega

(17) 400 Year Interlude
Prophets, and any new prophetic revelations have been absent for 400 years. The time is right and the scene is established for the Messiah to arrive. The way is prepared for a turn in human events. The last prophetic message given is to “prepare the way for the Lord”… He will be with us soon!

(18) Promises Fulfilled
Promises are kept. The Messiah arrives and fulfills prophecies in mighty but unexpected ways! His earthly coming had been prophesied so clearly and accurately, it’s amazing we weren’t able to recognize Him for who He is and who He claimed to be.

(19) Taught By God
The words of the Christ are  the very words and thoughts of God Himself! We have no excuse for not knowing about God, His nature, His desires for us and His teachings. Jesus boldly claims, “when you see Me, the Son, you have seen the Father.”

(20) But Jesus Paid it All
Mankind is redeemed! God’s requirement to cover-over and blot-out our sins is met through the painful sacrifice of His Messiah. Jesus’ unequaled and loving gift puts an end to Satan’s hold over us. At last we are welcomed into the throne room of God as His adopted children!

(21) Titles (Bread of Life)
There never has been a person like Jesus! He is unique and splendidly royal in every single way. The vast multitude of personal titles pertaining to Him express many aspects of His importance and purpose.  Christ; Savior; Sacrifice; Almighty God; Bread of Life… the list goes on and on and on.

(22) Beatitudes
When Jesus states that “blessed are” those who follow and love Him, His promises have much comfort and guidance. We truly have been blessed by the King of all Kings.

(23) The Heavens Declare His Victory
How could a man crucified on a cross be declared victorious? In Christ’s case, the cross is His crowning glory… a reflection on His many victories!

(24) The Apostles Theme
God can use ordinary people from all walks of life to get His job done… men and women like you and me.

(25) Sea of Despair / Showers of Grace
Our compassionate Lord Jesus is quite different from all other so-called deities. His gift of grace covers all our pains and turmoil.

(26) Counselor of Comfort
The great commission is given and the Holy Spirit empowers the church for service. God personally teaches and instructs His flock by speaking to their hearts. The meek and mild boldly perform miraculous healing and carry the gospel to foreign lands. At last God’s Spirit is poured out generously on all who believe and obey His Word!

(27) Miracle on the Damascus Road
Along comes a man who understands God’s Word clearly, with depth and is capable of teaching it with precision and accuracy! But Paul of Tarsus has not always been that way. With a desire to stamp-out the beginnings of the church, it is only after the risen Christ confronts Paul on the Damascus road and changes his life that he can be used effectively. Paul now helps build the foundation of Christ’s bride here on earth.

(28) Return Of The Prodigal
Despite the gospel of Christ, the family of man continue to blindly go our own way. We get so far from God it seems there is no turning back. But there is hope! Some of the wayward children turn and humbly seek our Father’s forgiveness. No matter how far we get from Him, God is always there waiting… offering grace, mercy and hope.

(29) Handing On a Legacy
What legacy do we leave behind. The greatest thing any of us can leave after we depart this world is the legacy of Christ and His gospel. It doesn’t get any better than that.

(30-32) The Last Millennium Medley
A medley of love songs to the Lord. The church age impacts the world as Gentiles from every nation are given the opportunity to enter God’s kingdom. Sunday is transformed into the day when the church gathers in worship and fellowship. Every island receives the message and many lives are touched. History is changed!

(33) The Omega Etude
God’s word has lovingly been given to mankind for our benefit and so we can know Him more intimately. The Messiah was promised and came for His first appearance… but He will appear again. We have seen the past; we’re experiencing the present; and we humbly look forward to the future.

(34) Judgment Day
The end of this age arrives with Christ’s second coming, followed by the day of final judgment. The living and the dead are united in heaven’s courtroom. Sentencing is carried out, rewards are given and punishment is enforced. All recognize Jesus as the triumphant king– eternal Word– giver of life– and fulfillment of truth.

(35) New World Has Come
Sin’s dominance of the earth is over. The promised ‘new Jerusalem’ is set in place with the authority of Christ reigning supreme. The enemy of man has been thrown into the lake of fire and God’s flock live in peace and contentment. Finally things are as they should be!

So Unique it Cannot be Categorized Accurately

It’s not ‘Christian music’ written for the choir… no, it’s music meant to be heard by those who wouldn’t enter a church’s doors. It’s not worldly or secular music, but it’s also not traditional Christian music. It’s definitely not religious music. Though it contains elements of praise and worship, it doesn’t fall into the category of ‘praise & worship’ either. So what is this confusing music?

First of all… it is ‘thematic’ music. This means that though there are thirty five individual and unique parts, they all merge together into one big theme. They’re all part of the whole; contribute to the whole; and work together to be part of the whole… sorta like the human body. Each part is individual and unique, but each part is very important in the functioning of the body as a complete unit. Together, they make-up two hours and forty minutes of music that can be listened to in one sitting or heard leisurely at the listener’s discretion.

Importantly, all parts contribute in shedding light on the creator of the universe and how He has made Himself known to us. These songs try not to reflect man’s concepts of god, because that falls into the realm of religion, and if there’s one thing the Alpha & Omega Suite isn’t about, that’s religion! God Himself has shown that He’s not impressed by the religions of mankind, He’s given His stamp of disapproval on them, and has made it clear to us that our religious activity normally only confuses the issue of who He is, and only draws people away from Him and His truths.

But God has made Himself known to us. He says that even the very world around us reflects some aspects of Himself and His nature. He’s also given a consistent and historical account of Himself which has spanned many millennium. His very actions have affected human history and the outcome of certain events. He has even spoken (though rarely) to certain people face-to-face. But most importantly, He has entered our world, in a certain time and place, as one of us! At one time, some two thousand years ago, He entered our world and became part of our history, and shown us exactly who He is… and what He expects from each one of us! That’s precisely what the Alpha & Omega Suite is all about.

Feel free to listen to some of it. Ideally, listen to all of it… if you have the time and patience. But definitely listen to the lyrics. Hear the message. Contemplate. Ponder. Become angry, or rejoice. Disagree or agree. Become convicted. But don’t dismiss. Some things are too important to quickly dismiss and forget. Let God touch your heart… and change your life! Maybe He’s tried to talk to you in the past and you didn’t listen. Listen to Him now. This is what the Alpha & Omega Suite is all about.

From the Suite: The Faithless and Faithful Trilogy

There are three songs in the Alpha which cover all the ideologies in our relationship with God and how we relate to Him. It doesn’t matter what type of religious or non-religious person you are, we all fall within one of four categories, and most of us overlap between more than one. Oftentimes we jump, or slide between one category and another. I personally have been in each one of these spiritual areas in my life… at one time or another.

Four types of “faithless and faithful” people
(as Biblically defined and proclaimed in the Alpha & Omega Suite)…
1) The agnostic
Those who are spiritually confused, uncertain and complacent concerning God and His place in their life.
2) The atheist
Those who deny God’s existence and fill the spiritual void by elevating humanity to pseudo-deity status.
3) The religious
Those who worship gods, religious institutions, and spiritual traditions created by man’s imaginations.
4) The faithful
Those whose lives have been altered by God; belong to Him; follow His desires; and live a life of devotion to Him.

At one time or another I have been each type of “faithless and faithful” person. My childhood was spent in the religious arena. I ventured into the area of agnosticism and later slid over into atheism. But when trying to disprove God, He showed Himself real and authentic, which pulled me into the final stage of being part of the faithful. Since then, the reality of doubt has occasionally (rarely) resurfaced but God being faithful and just always shows Himself true… thus never allowing me the self-deceptive freedom to move back into any of the other three areas. His love and truth is so much greater than the fiendish wanderings of my carnal imagination.
